seamless verification flows on ios

App Clips Explained

Thanks to the capabilities of App Clips on iOS, customers undertaking an identity verification flow on an iPhone no longer need to download an app.

By simply scanning a QR code or clicking a link, they can securely verify their identity using NFC on their device in seconds, even from a web flow.

Read on to discover more about App Clips and how they can be utilised by your business for a seamless customer flow.

What is an App Clip?

An App Clip is a version of an app that is initiated after scanning a QR code or clicking a link that runs on an iPhone without the need to install anything from the App Store.

They are useful to initiate a web-style flow for identity verification, reducing dropout by eliminating the need to install a one-time app.

We have made our ReadID SDKs small enough to be implemented into an App Clip.

This enables our customers to implement ReadID SDKs into an App Clip with their branding for a seamless customer experience. We also left room for a facial verification SDK to be added, enabling orchestration via our biometric partners.

Another major benefit of App Clips for our customers is that session identifiers from a website-initiated verification flow are carried across to the App Clip, enabling effectively an NFC web flow, something not previously possible. This is only applicable to iPhones, of course.

Can Android phones run App Clips?

Android has a similar feature, called Instant Apps, but it has too many limitations to be used successfully for this kind of identification flow. If an Android user uses the App Clips QR code or link, they will instead be directed to the Google Play Store page of ReadID Me to manually install the app.
